StarQuik – the online grocery shopping venture of Tata Group-owned Trent Hypermarket has moved to a new office in Gurugram. The 30-member team will be operating from an office in The PLAZA mall on MG Road that is managed by co-working startup – AltF.
StartQuik is the grocery e-commerce platform for Star Bazaar (the general stores of TATA) that is operational in several parts of Mumbai. Within a year the company expects to cover more than 20 outlets with an expansion of operations to cities including Bengaluru, Pune and Hyderabad. Star Bazaar runs 30+ stores and expects its e-commerce operations to become profitable at the store level before venturing into new markets.
Differentiating itself from other grocery e-commerce players, StarQuik supplies goods from its own stores and does not have warehouses.
Their delivery model essentially tries to tap the inter-group synergies for TATA store business. It has SNAP model — where they showcase products and deliver within three hours within a 7 km radius of a Star store. All promotions of Star store are made available on StarQuik, the loyalty card of Star too is aligned to StarQuik and there pricing is similar, both online and offline.
Earlier, the TATA Group had bought out a Gurugram-based startup – GrocerMax. There management team and technology of is now working for the new brand and closed operations of their earlier venture. Tata Group had given the GrocerMax team the task of starting the online marketplace – StarQuik.
GrocerMax was renamed to StarQuik as it now belonged to the Tatas and for FDI regulations since it has a joint venture with Tesco. This is the same team that will now operate from the new office. K Radhakrishnan leads the team as the co-founder of StarQuik.
