Xiaomi is to launch a budget selfie-centric mobile phone on the 7th of this month. The smartphone will be an Amazon exclusive in India.
Amazon revealed that a new Redmi Y smartphone will be available exclusively on its platform, a few days ahead of its launch. Xiaomi is all set to launch the budget-friendly phone on June 7. The smartphone, expected to be Redmi Y2, a successor to Redmi Y1, which was Xiaomi’s first selfie smartphone in India. The phone is expected to be a re-branded version of Redmi S2 which was earlier launched in China.
Amazon already has a ‘notify me’ option for the smartphone. The e-platform revealed in a teaser that the smartphone will feature a dual rear camera setup, a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, a fingerprint sensor and selfie LED light. It will also offer editing tools like for making adjustments to facial tones, erase scars and will also add various face filters like masks which have been trending on social media platforms. The upcoming phone is being trended with the hashtag #FindYourSelfie, clearly indicating it to be a selfie-centric phone.
Xiaomi has launched a selfie-centric smartphone in China last month namely Redmi S2. The new launch in India is expected to be a rebranded version S2. The S2 specifications included a 16MP front-facing sensor with AI-powered portrait mode. The phones were launched with 3GB ram and 32GB storage costing CNY 999 (Rs. 10,600 approx.); and 4GB RAM and 64GB storage version costing CNY 1,299 (around Rs. 13,700). The new Redmi model is expected to carry similar specifications in India.
The Chinese smartphone manufacturer will host an event in New Delhi on June 7 for the smartphone’s launch. The phone will be available on the company’s official partner’s e-commerce portal – Amazon India.
