Bank Employees Announce Strike
National Organisation of Bank Workers has announced a two-day Bank strike. More than 10 Lac bank employees across India will remain on strike on Wednesday and Thursday. Business is expected to suffer heavily because of the strike.
Worst affected will be the employees who get their salaries credited to their bank accounts in the last week of the month. Bank officers will remain away from work on 30th and 31st of May. With just a Friday left for full-working day of banks before the weekend adds to the crisis. Entrepreneurs to face difficulties and economy which is already dwindling is bound to suffer because of such interruptions.
Pertinent to mention here, the workers’ organisations and bank managements were involved in conciliatory talks convened by the Chief Labour Commissioner on Monday. But apparently the talks failed.
“Chief Labour Commissioner tried his best to sort out the strike issue but there is no positive development hence the strike stands,” stated CH Venkatachalam, General Secretary, All India Bank Employees Association.
Strike was called by the bank employee organisations in the wake of the Government’s casual approach to wage revision for bank officers. IBA’s offer of just a 2% hike in wage bill towards wage increase and delays in resolving charter of demands has led to the situation.
